Scam warning –

Online Investigations is warning Australians about a mail drop containing scam brochures and instant scratch cards from the fictitious Malaysian company “Above and Beyond Holiday”.

In each instance, two scratch cards are usually included within the brochure.  One of these will always be a major prize winner which requires the ‘winner’ to submit their details and return the winning ticket to their Malaysian based headquarters.

The key element of the scam is contained within the listed terms and conditions:

Prize winners may be obliged to submit taxes or any other mandatory charges as a result of the award.

Once the unsuspecting victim returns their ‘winning’ ticket, the bogus company will make contact asking them to make a number of upfront payments before they are awarded their windfall.  Of course, there is no payment to be made and the only money which will ever be transferred will be from the victim to the cybercriminals who orchestrated the scam in the first place.

The contact details for this bogus company are provided as:

CEO Suite 24/F, KLCC Menara Maxis

24th floor

Kuala Lumpu City Center

50088 Kuala Lumpur

Tel: +60 11 5189 2972 / +60 11 5189 2973

Have you received this in the mail? If so, let us know when and which area you are located so we can continue to warn others.

I received tickets recently, one ticket claimed that I had won US$190,000. The rep called me a few times, asked me to send copies of the tickets, envelope etc so that the I.T. Team could verify the authenticity of the tickets.
The rep called again to explain how it all works but really just told me about various payment options of how the money would be sent to me. He said he will call me back to further explain etc because he was calling me after his work hours. So bizarre.
