Online Investigations is warning Australians about a scam email purporting to be from Telstra.
The email has been sent from the address firstname.lastname@example.org with the Subject heading “Telstra Bill – Arrival Notification”.
The email then goes on to state:

The latest Telstra bills are now ready to be viewed
Viewing your Bill
You can view your Bill by clicking on the following link – View Bill [leads to a fake site]
Once logged in your account, you can view, manage and pay your bills in a ‘secure’ environment, 24 hours 7 days a week!
Bill Payment Options
Online Bill provides a range of different methods designed to make it easier to pay your bill. Once you have entered your login details and logged into your Online Bill, you can easily navigate to the Payments section to view these payment options and make a payment.
If you have already paid your bill please disregard this notification as payments may take 2 to 3 days to process.
Please note: Telstra will never ask you to provide credit card or banking details via email.

The email contains a “view bill” button which leads to a phishing site not affiliated with Telstra designed to obtain your login and password for your Telstra account. The email is typically spread by cybercriminals for the purposes of obtaining personal information for uses such as rerouting your phone number, adding additional phones to your bill and identity theft.
