Falsely claiming to have come from Board of Governors from the United States Federal Reserve System, the email offers to pay monetary compensation for victims of scams in an attempt to “redeem the good image of African Countries”.
It does all seem to become a little far fetched after learning that each individual victim is promised “$10,500,000.00 USD” each!! Considering over 1 million Australians lose money to a scam to scams every year, that is an incredible gesture!
Of course, this is just another scam and any email you receive similar to this should immediately be deleted.
If you are a victim of a scam, ensure that you immediately report it to your local Police and the financial institution where you transferred the money. If you are contacted out of the blue by an individual (either by phone or in this case, email) claiming to have knowledge of your scammer and/or your situation, DO NOT provide them with any personal information unless you have independently verified their information.
Recovery scams routinely involve the cyber criminals re-creating themselves under a new fictitious character in order to continue the scam and deprive you financially.
