An image of celebrity chef, George Calombaris has been used by cybercriminals online in an attempt to fleece innocent online daters of their savings.
The fictitious profile, located on the less known dating site “Zorpia” has been created in the name of “Robert” and advertises himself as a 51 year old American man who is looking for a date or relationship with an American woman between the ages of 40-55.
On contacting the fake profile, the cybercriminals gain the trust of their would-be victims by interacting personally and intimately before sweet-talking them into parting with their hard earned money.
“Robert” describes himself as “a down to earth kind of man with positive sense of humor”. Perhaps he was showing his funny side when he further lists his height as “5’11”.
